Moose And Squirrel Live Album

Posted By / / 0 comments

Moose And Squirrel has been around for years, but this is the first recording that has been released. Forged in the fires of the Fad Bar and completely without rehearsals or post-gig analysis, it’s a very raw and honest recording. It’s more or less jazz and it’s free, but it’s not ‘free-jazz’ as such. There are plenty of big fat grooves etc.

With Jamie Mensforth on bass and Chris Martin on keys.

A bunch of live Coma Jazz Flip albums: hear me drumming or listen to a string quartet play Immermann tunes

Posted By / / 0 comments

I was involved in a few of the Jazz Flip things which Coma puts on at Fringe time. Jazz Flip is where artists or bands get together and swap repertoire for one night.

Here is 1.1 Immermann playing the music of the fabulous Adelaide string quartet Zephyr Quartet:

And here is Zephyr playing our tunes:

I was also in guitarist Dylan Marshall’s band, playing the music of guitarist James Brown. It turned out really well. In a few of the tracks I play drums and drum machine (Roland SP-202) simultaneously.

And while we’re at it, to completely document my history with the Jazz Flip concept, here’s Ross McHenry’s group from 2012 playing the tunes of Lyndon Gray:

Your sexennial dose of 6-piece two-bass double-horned improvised dance music. I’m using my traditional Raucoustra drum setup: kick/snare/hats/cymbal. Check out the glass smashing around 8:10 into the second track.

I quite like this one. It contains some good urban beats. It sould appeal to youths. It is amongst Chad Kroeger’s finest work too.

BANDCAMP: DOWNLOAD OR STREAM

Doesn’t actually feature any more sythesizers than our other recent “albums”. ‘The Ballad Of One Of The Trumpet Players From The Shaolin Afronauts (feat. an eagle)’ should serve as a warning to everyone – if you warm up your trumpet while I’m recording percussion samples then expect to end up as the melody on a voiceROM “album”. Contains our shortest song to date: ‘Here, There and Elviswhere’ (00:00).

There is quite a lot of singing in this one. Good news for people who like singing.

Beverages starts looking at some unconvential recording and production techniques, such as making translation pronouciation guides sing and recording tracks in a crowded ramen restaurant. It features the longest voiceROM track thus far (a whopping 4:38!): ‘Stethoscopes and Hovercrafts’.

Most of this was actually made before voiceROM was a thing. But we spruced it up and gave it a proper VR release anyway. It has the most rapping of any of our “albums” so far, performed by the guys who dubbed the film ‘Five Deadly Venoms’. I haven’t been able to find out their names. Sam Zerna says that this one is his favourite.

And here it is, synced with the film. (The mix is better on the proper “album” release.)
